We’re living through a remarkable shift. Americans are living longer than generations before us, and soon, adults over 65 will outnumber children under 18. For many of us, that raises an important question: What will we do with the additional years we’ve been given?
At Crescendo, we believe our later years aren’t simply a time to step back – they can be some of our most meaningful years for growing, contributing, and following Jesus. The wisdom, experience, relationships, and gifts we’ve accumulated over a lifetime still have a purpose. God continues to invite us to love and serve our families, our church, our communities, and our world.
We call this Spiritual Eldership: embracing the unique role older adults can play in the life of a community. What have our experiences taught us? What wisdom can we offer others? And what might God still want to do in us—and through us—in the years ahead?
Why “Crescendo”?
In music, a crescendo is a gradual building toward greater strength and fullness. We love that picture for the later chapters of life. Rather than seeing aging primarily as decline, we want to become people who continue growing toward the fullness of God’s purposes for us.
The psalmist paints a similar picture:
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
planted in the house of the Lord,
they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green.”
— Psalm 92:12–14
What We Do Together
Crescendo typically gathers during second service in the Loft at Highrock Arlington for biblical exploration, meaningful conversation, shared wisdom, and mutual encouragement. We also enjoy brunches, special gatherings, and activities beyond Sunday mornings.
More than a ministry for older adults, Crescendo is a community we create with one another – a place to deepen friendships, enjoy life together, share what we’ve learned, and discover how God can continue using us in every season of life.
