Violence, Chaos, and a Good in the Bible

Session Panelist: Tim Mackie

In the fourth session of Theology Lab’s Deliver Us From Evil series, we’re joined by Tim Mackie, the co-creator and host of the widely acclaimed BibleProject. You might be familiar with their short animation videos, accessible to a range of audiences, young and old, on books and essential themes in the Bible, or the BibleProject podcast.

As both a scholar and exceptional communicator, we’re excited to host Tim for a session of this year’s Deliver Us From Evil Theology Lab. Drawing on Tim’s expertises, we’ll cover a whole range of questions on the Bible and evil. We’ll look at how the Bible, viewed as a unified story that points to Jesus, describes sin. We’ll reflect on topics like evil and what causes human suffering. And we’ll spend time exploring how we might understand themes of chaos and destruction in the Bible, from sometimes challenging stories like the Israelites call to conquer the promised land to the often confusing events of Revelation.

How do these topics and stories ultimately point us, as individuals and as the faith community, to Jesus and a deeper engagement in God’s desire to transform this world for the good of God’s kingdom?
