FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is the main point of this weekend?
A: The main point of this weekend is to provide a space where women can connect more deeply in fellowship with other women at Highrock across ages and life stages.
Q: How did you decide what this event should look like?
A: At the invitation of Pastor Dave, the core team has been planning for months and have gotten input and feedback from a significant number of women within our congregation through a series of roundtables. We learned from the best of what has been done in previous years and combined that with what our women seem to be looking for today.
Q: How are you going to facilitate women's connections over the weekend?
A: In a variety of ways! We're going to faciliate special gatherings, icebreakers, and games which will be fun but also encourage a deeper process of getting to know one another. We will have small groups that meet to discuss the content of the weekend. We will also have a number of women share their life stories. We encourage you to come for the entire weekend to have the most meaningful opportunities to connect.
Q: Is there any significant meaning behind the women's weekend logo?
A: Yes! Our Creative Arts Director, Lyh Rhen Lam, helped us to design a logo which represents our desire for both connection and beauty. The colorful shades of purple and gold represent both feminity and strength/royalty - which is who we are as daughters of the King.
Q: How will you communicate with us prior to the event?
A: Once registering for the weekend, you will be added to the Cobblestone Women's Weekend Group. Here we will post important announcements that you need to know prior to the event. You'll also have the opportunity to connect with other women who are attending before you get there and e-mail out about things such as coordinating rides to the event.
Q: How come there's not more free time to connect with God at this event?
A: While connecting with God is also a major priority of this weekend, we are not calling it a "retreat" because there are other opportunities at Highrock (i.e., prayer retreats, prayer gatherings, Sacred Space) where connecting with God is the main goal - and we encourage you to come out for those as well! The women's weekend will be a unique space at Highrock where the main focus is connecting women to one another at a deep level.
Q: I don't really tend to like women's events, they're not my thing. Am I really going to feel comfortable at this event?
A: All we can say is that we created this event with you in mind. Some of those who helped to plan this event and gave significant input also feel the same way! We are hoping to provide a space and activities which are comfortable and inclusive of everyone. Come and give us your feedback - help us to make our future events even better.
Q: Why do we need an event just for women? I can connect with both men and women.
A: Great, we encourage you to connect with both your brothers and sisters in Christ at all times, of course! And there are many opportunities for that in the life of our church. However, the reality is that over the course of a lifetime, the majority of our deepest friendships and closest mentors will tend to be people of our same gender. Aside from the context of marriage, it is very difficult for deep intimacy to flourish across the genders. We as women need one another in a special way and so we'd like to create a space for that.
Q: What meals are included in this event?
A: There will be light refreshments on Friday night. Saturday will include breakfast and lunch. Go ahead and bring some extra snacks if you're the type that likes to munch!
Q: Can you tell us anything about the accomodations?
A: Yes! We did a lot of research on locations and are excited about the Woburn Hilton. It's beautiful and classy. There is a lovely glass atrium space and all the modern conveniences including an indoor pool and a fitness room. You can and take a tour of the hotel and find directions on how to get there at this website.
Q: Do I need to share a room? Can I ask for a roommate?
A: Yes, at the normal registration price you will have one roommate, and each of you will have your own bed. If you would like to request a particular roommate, please let us know by e-mailing . Update as of 1/7/2011: we just recently added another option of having four women in one room which lowers the cost of the weekend; however this would mean that you would need to share beds. If you are interested in this option, you must e-mail us at .
Q: Are you organizing rides for this event?
A: No, we don't really have the logistical bandwidth to do that. However, we encourage you to e-mail the Cobblestone Women's Weekend Group to coordinate rides.
Q: I heard there were going to be breakout sessions for this event - what happened to those?
A: We originally planned on having breakout sessions on various topics, but decided instead to focus more on women's life stories - these are more personal and will likely foster better connections.
Q: Is this going to be just a one-time event or will there be any follow-up?
A: Our intention is for women who come to make lasting connections individually, but we also hope to follow up women's weekend with some additional women's events as well. We are in the process of planning those so stay tuned!
