Passion: the Week that Changed the World

Lent is the 40 day countdown to Easter, when Christians traditionally prepare for Easter by clearing out whatever gets in the way of God's Spirit living fully in them.  Many people fast, but that can become very self-centered, unless it is fasting from whatever competes with Jesus for your attention or devotion.

So this year consider fasting from complaining, sarcasm, vanity shopping, mindless media or gaming, or critical words, and then deliberately replacing that with thanksgiving to God, encouragement to others, sacrificial service or giving, time in Scripture or prayer.  This is not a time of self-improvement, but of coming closer to Jesus by sharing His love for His Father and His world, and removing any obstacles that get in the way of that.

"He must become greater, I must become less."  (John 3:30)
