COMMUNITY GROUPS

If you’re looking to get connected at Highrock, our Community Groups are a great place to start. Each Community Group hosts regular gatherings, small groups, and special events throughout the year. See below for a description of what each community will be up to this fall!

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

Every Friday, September 15th - December 15th, 6:30pm - 9:00pm

Highrock Commons (735 Mass Ave, church basement)

Every Friday night, we gather together to hang out, play games, and enjoy snacks. We close out the night with worship, a teaching, and small groups that are organized by grade and gender. We also have special events like Middle School Games, gym nights, and a winter retreat in NH!

6TH GRADE ORIENTATION

September 10th, 17th and 24th, during the 10:45am Service

Location: TBD

For students who are beginning 6th grade, we offer a three week class called “The Church”. This class is designed to help students understand their role in a larger church context and prepares them to engage in worship and service with everyone else on Sundays.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SUNDAY SCHOOL

Bi-weekly on Sundays, October 1st - December 10th, during the 10:45am Service

Arlington Senior Center (27 Maple St.)

This class is designed to enable students to engage with the Bible in a way that is accessible and meaningful to them. The goal is for students to understand how the stories and narratives in the Bible relate to our lives as God’s people.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

Looking to connect and make friends with others your age during the school year? Join us for a time of encouragement each week as we aim to grow in our faith, character, influence, and relationships. Throughout the school year we also have various events, outings, and retreats to allow us to further connect with each other and God.

Young adults experience a unique life stage marked by transitions ranging from university life to the first few years of work and everything in between. Join us on Friday nights for large group programming and small group conversations as we navigate the questions, challenges, and decisions that will shape the rest of our lives.

Anchor is a new community group at Highrock launching in the fall of 2017. Our vision is to be a diverse community centered around Christ and around shared experiences of spiritual practices. Anchor is for any adult who is able to come out to our gatherings on Friday nights.

MOMSROCK

Every Wednesday, beginning September 20th, 9:15am - 11:15am

Are you a mom looking to connect? Looking to learn more about God and why His character matters as we relate to Him? This year, fellow Highrocker, Kim Roberts, will be our guide as we dive into the ten names of God and explore what they say about His character. We will also be looking at our own attributes, how they impact our children, and discuss practical ways we can nurture their character. In addition to weekly teaching and small groups, we will welcome a number of other guest speakers on topics relating to spiritual health, parenting, and marriage. Childcare for children up to age 5 is available.

Women’s Small Groups

For any woman: mom, single, married, later in life, young in body or soul. We will be reading and discussing “True You: Overcoming Self-Doubt and Using Your Voice” by Pastor Adele Calhoun. This 8 week study will explore your story, God’s story, and God's purposes in our lives. Flexible start times available with two sessions to choose from.

MEN’S COMMUNITY

The Men’s Community hosts various events and social gatherings throughout the year, from talks given by guest speakers on challenging topics, to opportunities to engage in common interests with other Highrock men. Men’s events are also great places to get connected and find a men’s small group to join. Our hope is to gather men from all walks of life to learn, serve, and grow together.

MARRIAGE EVENTS

We hold quarterly events to encourage couples in four core habits: having serious fun, loving God first, practicing your promise, and loving and respecting one another. These events include appetizers, desserts, games, interactions with other couples, and inspiring teaching about how to grow in your marriage.

KIDSROCK

Family services throughout July and light programming in August; Main Sanctuary, Children’s Wing, and Ministry Center

We are on break for the summer.  Elementary aged children (entering Grades 1-5 in the Fall) can join us for family services right in our main sanctuary during the month of July and for light programming run by parents in August.  For walkers (age 1) - kids entering kindergarten in the Fall, light programming and childcare will be available throughout July and August by RSVP to .  The nursery will be available for parents to use throughout the summer.

Full children’s programming for both services will resume in the Fall.

Every Tuesday evening a team of Highrockers delivers Panera bread to over 30+ families who live right in Arlington.  It's a great way for you to serve over the summer and actually get to know and hang out with your neighbors.

BREAD DELIVERY MINISTRY

Tuesdays, 6:20pm - 8:20pm

82 Fremont St, Arlington

Every Tuesday evening, a team of Highrockers delivers Panera bread to over 30+ families who live right in Arlington. This outreach is a great way to serve during the year while getting to know some of our neighbors. We are also looking for people who are interested in picking up bread on Monday nights or to wrap it on Tuesday afternoons.

CHRISTIAN ESSENTIALS CLASS

Beginning on September 17th for 7 weeks

Arlington: 9:00am, Location TBD

Cambridge: 12:00pm at 72 Norfolk St. in Central Sq

An introduction to the essentials of Christianity, including its historic teachings, beliefs, and practices, so as to inform the mind’s thought, transform the heart’s belief, and form the hands’ actions. The objective of this course is to help us become fully devoted followers of Jesus. This class also serves as one of the prerequisites for adult baptism or confirmation at Highrock. JAPANESE MINISTRY

Interested in reaching out to our Japanese neighbors in Boston? Join us for outreach, fellowship, and new friendships through small groups, meals, events, and a big Thanksgiving Dinner (November 18)! No knowledge of the Japanese language or culture is necessary.

JAPANESE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM PLAYGROUP

Fridays, September 22nd - December 8th (except November 24), 9:30am - 11:00am

Main Church Building, Children’s Wing and Ministry Center (735 Mass Ave.)

Join our playgroup on Friday mornings as we serve Japanese moms in our community. We’re looking for volunteers who can interact with the moms and provide light programming and childcare for their kids while the moms learn English. Moms with kids welcome! We’re also looking for teachers for the English classes. We typically offer two classes, a language basics class and a discussion class. No training or Japanese language required to volunteer.

CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONALS

We offer three options for classes:

Tuesdays, beginning September 26th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm; 72 Norfolk St in Central Square, Cambridge

Conversational English classes are an exciting opportunity to engage with people from around the world as we help them learn English and explore Christianity. If you enjoy being hospitable, having small group conversations, or celebrating holidays and special events, consider either being an English conversation partner, a small group leader, or providing child care so more parents can attend. Training will be provided.

INTERNATIONAL HOST MINISTRY

Moving to a new country can be intimidating and overwhelming. We want to help internationals get connected by introducing them to a Highrocker. The purpose is to show God’s love through hospitality by sharing experiences and stories together. Hosts are appropriately matched with an international that participates in our International Ministry and commits to connecting with their match at least 6 times over the year. Training will be September 17th, location TBD.

HIGHROCK SMALL GROUPS

Highrock small groups typically go on break over the summer and start up again in the Fall. There will be summer events happening periodically for you to get to know others in the Highrock community. You can get connected and when the Fall comes, it will make it easier for you to join a small group with some folks you already know.
